CCV to host ‘Red, White & Brews’ fundraiser
Last year, the Clarence Citizens for Veterans fundraiser, “Red, White & Brews,” was a huge success, according to CCV President Marty Helowicz. The event, which was previously called “The Open Your Heart” fundraiser, is a benefit for homeless and wounded veterans in Western New York. It raised approximately $6,000 in 2017.
This year’s fundraiser will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 16, in the Clarence Town Park, 10405 Main St. The evening will feature music from 1970s cover band “The Informers.” Also, craft beer will be served from 12 local breweries such as Big Ditch, New York Beer Project, 42 North, Thin Man and Resurgence. The event will include food, wine and cider, as well as a silent auction and basket raffles.
The CCV was formed in October 2010 and has raised thousands of dollars for both national and local veteran organizations.
“Beginning in 2013, our focus changed from working with national to local organizations such as WNY Veterans Housing Coalition, WNY Heroes, Buffalo One Step, Honor Flight Buffalo, the WNY Iraq/Afghanistan Memorial and most recently the Call of Duty Veterans Training Center at the Response to Love Center,” Helowicz said.
The cost for “Red, White and Brews” is $10 per person. Proceeds will go toward the VA’s Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Program and the Higher Grounds Veterans Retreat Program.
“We usually hold a handful of events such as this per year, but this is our biggest fundraiser,” Helowicz said. “We focus on local veterans, but we also have raised money for veterans nationwide.”
Participation is restricted to people 21 years of age and older.
