Joseph M. Rutowski, pharmacy owner
Joseph M. Rutowski, of Clarence, died Friday, May 25, 2018.
Mr. Rutowski was a pharmacist who purchased Tile Pharmacy in Cheektowaga in 1978. He created J. Rutowski Pharmacies Inc., a family of five local pharmacies in Western New York.
The business was named the 2010 Am-Pol Eagle Citizen of the Year in Business recipient. He was also honored by the General Pulaski Association Inc.
Mr. Rutowski had been a registered pharmacist since the early 1960s and started his first store with his wife, Martha, in September 1978 at the corner of Cleveland Drive and Beach Road.
He was a member of the Pharmacy Association of Western New York and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Justin Council, 5670 Third and Fourth Degree.
Mr. Rutowski is survived by his wife, Martha (nee Rollek); six children, Ann Marie Kakavand, Joseph, John, Jerome, James and Jeffrey; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 31 at Queen of Martyrs Church. Arrangements were made by the Barron-Miller Funeral Home Inc.
